About Deshbandhu College

Deshbandhu College was established in the year 1952 by the Ministry of Rehabilitation, in memory of Late LalaDeshbandhu Gupta who was a veteran freedom fighter. Later the college was transferred to the Ministry of Education and then taken over by the University of Delhi. Deshbandhu College, since then, is a fully maintained constituent college of the University of Delhi and is one of the oldest and the largest co-educational institutes in South Delhi which are promoting Humanities, Commerce, and Science courses. The college contributes to higher education in big ways, presently, offers seven post-graduate and eighteen undergraduate courses in discourses ranging from languages/literature, history, political science, economics, commerce to all the major branches of science and mathematics. The college caters to over 4500 students every year and giving birth to several scholars every year - creating marvels like Ravish Kumar, Prabhu Chawla, Gulshan Kumar, Raghu Ram among others. The students of Deshbandhu College are known to be dynamic and active in all aspects of college life - academics, extra-curricular activities, the university political system, and much more. There is a reason why the college is known as ‘Chota DUSU’ (DUSU is short for Delhi University Students’ Union).
