Bangalore, also known as Bengaluru, is one of the best Indian cities in terms of education and lifestyle. The rapidly developing metropolitan is home to India’s premier educational institution, and furthermore, it is also a hub for numerous startups and multinational corporations. Due to these reasons, thousands of students migrate to Bangalore yearly to pursue their higher studies and start their careers. While Bangalore’s vibrant and rich culture is attractive, as a student, you might face some issues as you settle in.

From accommodation to food and transportation, you must consider numerous aspects as you shift to Bangalore. This short guide will help you simplify this task and help you create a fantastic experience living in the IT City.

Accommodation

One of the essential things to consider when moving to Bangalore is finding the right accommodation. Here are some options that you can consider as per your budget and lifestyle.

PGs or Paying Guests:

These are shared rooms or apartments where you pay monthly rent and get basic amenities such as food, water, electricity, and Wi-Fi. PGs are usually cheaper than other options and can be found in most areas of the city. However, they may also have some drawbacks such as the lack of privacy, hygiene issues, or strict rules.

Hostels:

These are similar to PGs but are usually run by educational institutions. Hostels offer more facilities, including security and laundry but may also charge higher fees and have stricter regulations. Hostels are ideal for students who want a more structured and disciplined environment.

Flats or Apartments:

These are independent units where you can live alone or with roommates. Flats or apartments give you more freedom, privacy, and comfort but also require more responsibility and expenses. You have to pay for rent, maintenance, utilities, food, and also take care of cleaning and cooking. Flats or apartments are suitable for students who want more flexibility and autonomy.

Student Accommodations:

Co-Living hostels in Bangalore are specialised services catering to students’ needs. They offer furnished rooms or apartments with amenities such as food, Wi-Fi, housekeeping, laundry, gym and home-style meals at affordable prices. Such spaces also have a community of like-minded students and organise events for networking and fun. Your-space student rooms in Yelahanka and the hostel in Reva Tower are the ideal accommodation options for students as they come replete with the abovementioned amenities. The your-space co-living spaces are also located in the vicinity of important educational institutions so that students can save up on commute and time.

You can easily find accommodation as per your tastes by doing online research and joining social media groups. You can also contact your classmates or seniors to pick the most suitable option for yourself.

Food

Another important aspect of living in Bangalore is food. The city offers a variety of cuisines and dishes to suit every taste and budget. Some of the best places to eat in Bangalore are:

Street Food:

If you want to experience the authentic flavours of Bangalore, you can’t miss the street food. You can find stalls selling dosas, idlis, vadas, chaats, momos and rolls at every corner of the city. Street food is cheap, delicious, and filling, but you should also be careful about hygiene and quality.

Cafes and Restaurants:

If you want to enjoy a more relaxed and comfortable dining experience, you can visit one of the many cafes and restaurants in Bangalore. You can find everything from fast food to fine dining here. You can also explore different cuisines such as Chinese, Italian, Mexican and Thai and local specialities like biryanis, kebabs and curries.

Canteens and Messes:

If you want to save money and time on food, you can opt for canteens or messes that are available in most colleges. They offer simple and nutritious meals at subsidised rates. However, they may also have limited options and quality.

If you opt for co-living spaces in Bangalore, such as your-space, you can easily enjoy home-style meals which are nutritious, hygienic and timely. It helps you forego the hassle of cooking and grocery shopping if you live in a rental apartment. At the same time, you also save money by not ordering food from outside and can stick to a healthy lifestyle.

Transport

The last albeit important thing you need to consider when living in Bangalore is transport. The city has an extensive network of roads and public transport systems that connect different parts of the city. While you might be living near your college in a PG, however, you will still require transport to experience other areas of Bangalore. Some of the most common modes of transport are:

Buses:

Buses are the cheapest and most widely available mode of transport in Bangalore. You can find buses operated by BMTC (Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation) that cover almost every route in the city. You can also get student passes that offer discounts on bus fares.

Metro:

Metro is the fastest and most convenient mode of transport in Bangalore. It consists of two lines that connect major areas of the city, including MG Road, Indiranagar and Majestic. You can buy tokens or smart cards to travel by metro.

Autos or Rickshaws:

Autos or rickshaws are three-wheeled vehicles that can take you anywhere in the city. They are easy to find and hail but may also charge higher fares or refuse to go by meter. You should always negotiate the fare before opting for the ride.

Take care of these things as you move into the city, and we are sure you will have the time of your life living in Bangalore.
